October 24, 2011 – Haymarket, Va. – Tranquility Day Spa is celebrating National Massage Therapy Awareness Week and Breast Cancer Awareness month with a free four-day event, beginning Tuesday, October 25.

The community is invited to enjoy free mini-manicures on Tuesday, October 25 from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Friday, October 28 from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Spa’s Beauty Bar for a $5 donation. On Wednesday, October 26 and Thursday, October 27 between 12:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., guests will enjoy a free 10-minute seated massage for a $5 donation.  All proceeds benefit the Susan G. Koman Foundation.

“We’re calling it Pink & Pampered Week,” shared Spa Co-Founder Gloria Harding, “the week will provide some expert pampering while increasing breast cancer awareness and generating donations for this important cause.”

The event will take place in Tranquility Day Spa’s Beauty Bar area. The Beauty Bar offers some 30 services, each priced at $30 or less and available on a walk-in basis.

Thirty-two million strong, the teen market is a force to be reckoned with, and its members have just as many questions as the ladies do about what looks good!

Teen Night at Tranquility has become an evening that is notorious for being the “it” place to be for beauty education and fun! This evening was birthed from our clients’ desire to help guide their young girls through the uncharted territory of pre-teen beauty. I had a client say to me, “My daughter came down the stairs the other night and just about scared me to death!” Apparently, the daughter was s experimenting with mascara and looked like a spider landed on her!

My immediate thought was, “Wow! I bet a lot of our clients are going through this same process with their daughters. How can we help?”  With that, the inaugural Teen night was born. Its goals are simple: it’s an evening designed to educate our teens on the dos and don’ts of, hair, skin, nails and make-up. Mix in some yummy, healthy treats and swag bags full of goodies and prizes throughout the evening and you have the formula for a sell-out event every time!

Now six years and a teen of my own at home later, I’ve come to realize that this evening is about a lot more than beauty. Young women today need to know they are valued and treasured for what’s inside.  Yes, feeling beautiful is important and knowing how to take care of your skin and nails is essential, but it only takes one visit to a local middle schools or high schools to realize that what these girls really need to know is that who you are is defined by what you believe and stand up for.  A young girl that really knows her value is graceful and kind, loving and modest. She knows who she is and doesn’t compromise that for anyone, no matter how “unpopular” it will make her with the crowds. That’s real beauty.

So, how do we make our young women confident, sure of themselves and secure enough to stand up for what they believe?  I believe that, as parents and mentors, we have to be those things first. That means leading by example, connecting them with their creator, praying for them and with them every day, and spending the time investing in them.

I will use my space in Haymarket Lifestyle to talk about how we do this, in part, by using health and beauty as a confidence-builder—a gateway, if you will, to what’s fundamentally important. I believe outer beauty is on the path to inner beauty, and I look forward to sharing my views with you!
